Choosing Flowers for a Gardener

Posted by eastridgefs on November 1st, 2014

Trying to choose flowers for someone who is an experienced gardener might be intimidating. It seems similar to preparing a meal for a professional chef. Remember that people who garden do so because they love plants. It would be a shame to avoid giving flowers to that special gardener in your life; they might truly wish to receive them.

People who garden might never cut their own flowers for bringing indoors, but that does not mean they never think about doing so. Gardeners are often proud of the plants they have helped bring to life, so the idea of cutting them might riddle them with guilt. A bouquet of flowers could be the perfect way for them to enjoy this simple pleasure, without feeling guilty about destroying their treasured garden.

Who Does Not Love Roses?

You might think that someone who does not grow roses, does not like them. When selecting a gift from a florist in Auckland, roses are a valid choice, even if they seem a little cliched. However, if you know they do not like red, choose a different colour of rose, such as pink, white, or apricot.

Is their garden modern and unique, or traditional and homely? Traditional gardeners should enjoy large, full-blooming roses, or lavish spray roses. Long stem varieties are a better choice for gardeners who have contemporary gardens, as they are refined and elegant.

Acknowledge Their Gardening Talents

If you have decided against something traditional, like roses, try incorporating something that only a gardener would appreciate. Put your flowers in a unique vase, so that later it can be refilled with more flowers from the garden. You could also include an expensive gardening tool with your floral gift; try to find something that the recipient wants, but has never been able to afford.

Incorporate the Sense of Smell

Flowers not only look beautiful, but many varieties have a wonderful fragrance; you would be surprised at how many garden varieties have no discernible smell. Take a walk through your local florist in Auckland and smell the different flowers. Choose something that has a wonderful aroma, and inspire that special gardener with the sense of smell.

Plants that Keep Giving

Some gardeners hate the idea of cutting flowers at all, and watching them slowly wither away. Why not give a gift that will keep on growing and bringing joy? Give them a plant that they can add to their garden. Most gardeners generally love receiving something living, that they can take outside and plant in a perfect spot. You might find a florist in Auckland that carries potted plants, if you do not have a nursery nearby.

Forget Tradition

While most people are content with a traditional rose or posy, someone who avidly collects plants might find such a simple gift to be dull. Try finding an exotic plant that requires a little special care, such as calla lilies and the bird of paradise. This might require a trip to a specialist florist in Auckland, but it will be worthwhile. Find More
