Have we not been hearing of the term ‘GPS’ for quite some time now? It has made a major impact on the lives of many entrepreneurs in India for almost two decades. For those who are not yet aware of what it is, let us first see what exactly it stands for?

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather conditions. A GPS tracking system is a device which can be attached to anything that has to be tracked using the global positioning system. Primarily created by the U.S. Department of Defence, it is now open for public use and has gained extreme popularity. Considerable low costs associated with the installation and usage of the GPS tracking device in India as compared to previous tracking devices is another reason for its popularity.

There are two types of the GPS tracker system, the data pullers and data pushers. Both operate differently but give the same type of result. With the help of these trackers, one can know the accurate information about the present location, speed and direction of the vehicle it is attached to. The data can be checked either on real time basis or later as per the requirement.

Today, since technology has completely changed our lives, the use of the GPS tracking device in India is not limited to commercial purposes only. Due to the extensive reach of the GPRS (mobile data) technology, these tracking devices are now also being used for personal safety. One can easily keep track of old parents, kids or even pets with the help of these trackers. The data can be easily checked on one’s laptop or Smartphone. Besides, this system is being effectively used by the police, the wildlife department, hiking groups and businessmen. Locating stolen vehicles, such as bikes and cars, has been made easy by the GPS Bike tracking Systems.

Undeniably though, the GPS Vehicle tracking system has proved to be a boon to business houses with their own fleet of vehicles. Transportation, utility services and distribution networks are some types of businesses which have greatly benefitted by this system. Fleet management of delivery trucks and similar vehicles has become easy with location data at their finger tips. With real-time GPS data available, one can fully monitor their entire fleet of vehicles and keep track of employee time, fuel consumption, and inventory. As a result of this, the employees are always on alert and this has a direct effect on their productivity and efficiency.

Last but not the least, since Google Maps came into existence, a new era where GPS tracking systems are integrated with Google Maps has emerged. With the universal coverage and extensive mapping, Google Maps are even easier to use. This has affected the sales of the GPS tracking systems as a Smartphone with the same features is now available at a fraction of the cost.
