A lot of professional opportunities open up once you have a dental education degree. Today’s dental school graduates, in addition to private practice, can choose to work in advanced laboratories for conducting research, hospital emergency rooms, choose teaching or even travel the world with international health and relief organizations. Dentists can find lots of opportunities to learn new skills by continuing education and stay abreast of new procedures or technology. This can help them increase their business acumen too. A dentist must have a keen eye for detail, comprehensive medical understanding, ability to memorize and recall scientific facts along with cool temperament, above average logical reasoning and strong interpersonal skills.

Dentists today should possess an artistic sense besides scientific knowledge. They should possess an aesthetic sense to brighten the tooth or to realign an entire jaw, in turn helping patients look their best. Craftsmanship and skill are equally important with theoretical knowledge in this field to excel. One must need at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Science (BDS) to practice as a dentist, though there is no specialization at the bachelor’s level. A specialization with Master’s degree will help in career growth. These courses are offered in the Bapuji Dental College and Hospital.

The eligibility criteria of the Bapuji Dental College and Hospital Admission includes a 10+2 pass with Physics, Biology, and Chemistry as main subjects at the 11th and 12th standards with at least 50% marks. The Nationwide competitive exam is conducted to get entry to graduate dental courses.

CBSE Board conducts all India Premedical/Pre-dental entrance exam that is common for both Dental as well as M.B.B.S degrees. Institution allocation is based only on merit. In some of the dental colleges like Bapuji Dental College and Hospital Direct Admission is governed by domiciliary status. Based on the marks obtained in the exam, a merit waiting list up to a number of 1 to 2000 is made. Candidates are selected based on the merit list and assigned their choice.

Students can also opt for  Bapuji Dental College and Hospital Management Quota, which are approved by the Dental Council of India. For NRI students, Bapuji Dental College and Hospital NRI Quota Admission Department offers dental seats.

Duration: Bachelor of Dental Sciences is a 4-year course, which is divided into 4 parts each with 1-year duration. This is followed by one year of rotating internship. In the first 2 years, subjects such as physiology, anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, and pharmacology are taught. In the last two years, hands on training and specialization in dentistry are provided. On completion of BDS, one needs to register with the Dental Council of India to practice dentistry. Two additional years of training will fetch a master’s degree in dentistry (MDS).
