What Do Paddle Boards Weigh in Weight?

One of the most important questions I had when I started paddling was "How heavy is a paddle board?" I didn't realize how heavy they were. To transport my SUP back home, I had to take it from the beach to my car.

There are many factors that go into selecting the right paddleboard for you. It can be overwhelming to choose from so many different types and sizes of paddleboards. I did some research to compile the following information on paddleboard weight considerations.

How much do paddle boards weigh?

Paddle boards weigh, on average, about 30 pounds. An average paddle board weighs between 30 and 40 pounds. It all depends on the paddle board type and the materials used. The most heavy boards are made from plastic. Carbon boards and epoxy/fiberglass boards have the highest weights.

Now we know that the type and weight of a paddleboard will affect its weight. Let's dive into the details. We'll discuss the difference in weight between inflatable and stand-up paddle boards, as well as which size board to get based on your body type. We'll also show you how to choose the right panel. We'll also demonstrate the different weights of paddle boards.

Let's learn more about the weights of paddle boards.

What's the weight of a paddle board?

There are many weight options for paddle boards, from lightweight to heavy. These boards can weigh as much as 40 to 45 pounds. Traditional boards weigh between 24 - 30 lbs. Boards that are lighter than the average weight are not only more expensive but also less durable.

Boards that are longer and heavier are more expensive than boards that are shorter but lighter. This is due to the high cost of materials and the time it takes to make them. Paddle boards can be expensive. Before you make a decision, take your time.

It's easier to transport, load and unload lighter boards. It's more difficult to load heavier boards and it can take up to two people to do the loading and unloading. Having an extra pair of hands can help you avoid injuries or mishandling your board.

How much does a 12-foot paddleboard weigh?

Medium Board Weights

A 12-foot SUP is the most popular. It can be carried by just one person and provides enough buoyancy to support medium-to-heavy paddlers.

Popular medium-sized paddleboards are 10-12 feet long. They can weigh 20-30 pounds depending on the type of paddleboard and the materials they are made from.

Long Board Weights

A long paddleboard measures 12 feet 6 inches.

Longboards are heavier because of the higher amount of material used. Longboards are heavier because they tend to be thicker. Long paddle boards offer stability and are ideal for smooth riding and calm open-water cruising.

For lightweight paddle boarders, long paddle boards provide a faster, more maneuverable ride. Longer boards that are heavier provide stability and control for paddlers who are heavier.

What's the Weight of Inflatable Padboards?

Inflatable paddleboards are lighter than SUP boards made from heavier, more solid material.

Inflatable paddleboards are lightweight, making them ideal for those who travel frequently but don't have the space or ability to transport them. Inflatables can be transported easily and can weigh as little as 17 lbs or as much as 22 lbs. A standard hard paddleboard weighs 30 lb.

Inflatable paddleboards are great for whitewater paddling as well as calm water paddling. Although they can be used for surfing, they aren't as efficient at catching waves. They also don't have as smooth a ride as solid paddle boards.
