Posted by Aapkilathi Happy Elder on October 22nd, 2022

Every year, the celebration of lights known as Diwali fills our lives with joy and happiness. This holiday represents the victory of lighting over darkness. As soon as Diwali comes, we begin to celebrate with our neighbours, but we neglect to include our elderly neighbours in this celebration. They are in a stage of life where they find it challenging to completely take part in such festivities.

Tips on how to celebrate Diwali with seniors

  1. Make sure to keep the elderly in a different room when cleaning the home before Diwali. Particularly for those who suffer from asthma, dirt and dust might interfere with their circulatory tract. During the cleaning, require them to wear masks.
  1. Keep elderly folks away from dust and elements like cadmium and lead present in crackers if they have issues with their central nervous systems. These may make it difficult for them to breathe.
  1. Your grandparents or family members could become annoyed around Diwali due to high blood pressure or stress. So, treat them with kindness and patience.
  1. Older people’s hearts can stop suddenly from cracker noise. Therefore, be sure to break crackers while avoiding them.
  1. Older adults who have health issues have to be kept inside. In them, noise may result in headaches, problems with their appetites, and insomnia. It is advised not to take them outside the house to light fireworks.
  1. Make absolutely sure they do not have any ongoing medical issues before bringing them outside to break crackers.
  2. Before hosting any Diwali celebrations at your home, check your doctor if your elderly loved ones have any major health conditions like asthma, sinusitis, or pneumonia.

Diwali activities you can do with elders

1.Ask them to create rangoli patterns and illuminate the home with diyas.

2. Use them to decorate every room of your house in various designs.

3. Decorate your puja room and perform puja with family and friends to honour Diwali.

4. Make some delicious recipes with your friends and enjoy them alongside your old ones.

5. Enjoy some entertaining games with your companions.

Conclusion

We hope you consider these tips helpful to celebrate Diwali with your elderly family members.
