The Benefits of a Heat Pump Water HeaterPosted by paul walker on October 24th, 2022 What is the best tankless electric instant water heater? A heat pump water heater (HPWH) is a type of water heater that uses electricity to help transfer heat from one place to another. By doing this, it can be two to three times more energy efficient than a traditional electric water heater. Even though the initial cost of an HPWH is higher than a traditional electric water heater, the HPWH will save you money in the long run because of how much cheaper it is to operate. In addition, HPWHs tend to last longer, have a smaller carbon footprint, and are safer than traditional electric water heaters. How a Heat Pump Water Heater Works The coil system is made up of two coils: an evaporator coil and a condenser coil. The evaporator coil is located inside the unit and contains Freon, which goes through evaporation and vaporization when it comes into contact with warm air. This releases heat, which is then transferred into the condenser coil. The Freon in the condenser coil then goes through a process of condensation and liquidation when it comes into contact with cold water from the surrounding environment, which absorbs the heat. The fan helps move air over the coils so that heat can be transferred more quickly. When the Freon evaporates, it pulls heat from the air and transfers it into the coils. When the Freon condenses, it releases heat into the surrounding environment. One important thing to note is that an HPWH needs access to both cold water and warm air in order to function properly. If your home does not have access to both of these things, then an HPWH may not be right for you. Conclusion: Like it? Share it!More by this author |
