Herschel Jantjies Career Journey

Herschel Jerome Jantjies is a professional rugby union player from South Africa. He plays for the Stormers in Super Rugby and the South Africa national side.  He typically plays scrum-half. Jantjies was raised in Stellenbosch and went to Paul Roos Gymnasium. In the Craven Week competitions in 2013 and 2014, he represented Western Province at the Under-16 level in 2012.

 In the 2016 Currie Cup qualification series, Western Province played the Leopards. He advanced to their Under-19 and Under-21 squads. This was his first game in a first-class competition. Before switching to the Western Province U21 team for the second part of the season.

 He substituted other players four times for Western Province during the 2017 Rugby Challenge. Which they would go on to triumph. Jantjies was added to the Scarlets squad. At the end of 2017 their trip to South Africa for the 2017–18 Pro14 season. He entered the game against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein as a replacement.

In their Round Three triumph over the Boland Cavaliers, a 23-21 victory in the 2018 Rugby Challenge. He participated in all nine of their games. This included his first and second tries in first-class rugby. Jantjies added another try to his total in their game against the Border Bulldogs. It helped his team advance to the quarterfinals before being defeated by the Free State XV.

Jantjies began playing schoolboy rugby in his hometown of Kylemore, where he attended P.C.   He travelled abroad for the first time at the juvenile age of 14. When he went to Scotland in the UK. As a member of a South African invitational rugby team on a postseason tour.  When the Stormers played the Sharks in their final Super Rugby encounter of the year. Jantjies was a member of the squad and made his Super Rugby debut as a replacement in the second half.
