The three common types include pressure relief, pressure reduce, and fixed throttle. Pressure “relief” valve is different from the other two valves as it limits the system pressure to a specific set level only. If the pressure is going to be between 90% and 95% of the set pressure, metal-seated spring valves are a better choice. If operation pressure will be above 95%, soft-seated valves are preferable

• Spring or pilot operated valves - Depending on the operation temperature, you should choose from a spring or pilot-operated pressure relief valve. If the temperature is going to be at 197 degrees or below, spring valves are a better choice. If the temperature will be at 70°C or below, pilot-operated, soft seated valves are preferable.
