How To Choose The Right Pressure Relief Valve For Hydraulic Systems

Posted by aslaymavens on February 26th, 2019

A Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) is a commonly used safety valve in hydraulic systems. It is meant to control or limit the pressure in the machines. These valves carry a great significance because too much pressure in the hydraulics can sometimes lead to equipment failure and even fire.

Many tractor operators spend hours on trying to figure out why the pressure relief valve is not performing what it is supposed to do. One of the biggest reasons behind people facing this problem is that they are actually not using the right valve. So, whenever you need an IH relief valve, make sure that you shop for the right one, so you do not face any trouble trying to install them. But, how to decide which is the right pressure relief valve for your system? Following are a few important things that must know when shopping for IH relief vale:-

  • Pressure relief is different from pressure reduce and fixed throttle valves - First of all, you need to know which type of pressure valve you are looking for. The three common types include pressure relief, pressure reduce, and fixed throttle. Pressure “relief” valve is different from the other two valves as it limits the system pressure to a specific set level only. Pressure reducing valves influence the output pressure (actuator pressure) of the hydraulic system to a subsystem, whereas fixed throttle valves are either used to direct the flow to secondary circuit (sequence) or the tank(unloading)
  •  Soft sealed or metal sealed valves - Depending on the operation pressure, you should choose from a soft sealed or metal sealed pressure relief valve. If the pressure is going to be between 90% and 95% of the set pressure, metal-seated spring valves are a better choice. If operation pressure will be above 95%, soft-seated valves are preferable
  • Spring or pilot operated valves - Depending on the operation temperature, you should choose from a spring or pilot-operated pressure relief valve. If the temperature is going to be at 197 degrees or below, spring valves are a better choice. If the temperature will be at 70°C or below, pilot-operated, soft seated valves are preferable.

Looking to buy pressure relief valves? Take into consideration the above-mentioned points and only shop from a reputable online or offline IH components store to get the best quality, reliable products that you can count on for years to come.
