Support Your Loved One Through Leading Disability Services in NSW

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a national approach to providing individualised support and services for people with a disability. The main categories of disability are physical, sensory, psychiatric, neurological, cognitive and intellectual. Many people with disability have multiple disabilities, and the NDIS accounts for that too. Early intervention supports can likewise be provided for eligible people with disability or children with developmental delay.

The NDIS will significantly change the way disability services are provided in NSW, delivering individualised support for people with a disability, their families and carers. The NDIS is designed to help people get the support they need so their skills and independence improve over time.

To be eligible for the NDIS you must:

  • have a permanent and significant disability or a developmental delay
  • be an Australian citizen, or hold a permanent visa or a Protected Special Category visa
  • be under 65 years of age
  • need support from a person or equipment to do everyday activities

The NDIS is a big change for everybody, and some service providers have a better understanding of it than others. The leading disability services in NSW will help people living with disability to get reasonable and necessary funded supports – related to their disability and required for them to live an ordinary life.

You should look for a service provider who has extensive information on NDIS and who is responsive to your all questions. Some disability service providers may also be able to meet with you to help you prepare for your NDIS planning meeting, so you can get the best out of your meeting.

A Service Agreement is a document that helps explain how the service provider will support you to use the supports in your NDIS plan. If your service provider provides you a simple to understand Service Agreement, this will help you to understand what supports will be provided, what they cost, and how they will be paid for, along with any agreed terms and conditions.

Not all NDIS providers specialise in disability services for children and adults, or their families and carers, and some providers can only deliver certain types of support. You can choose to receive all your supports through the one service provider, or you can use different service providers for each support. You will just need a Service Agreement for each provider you choose.

As part of your NDIS planning meeting, you can ask for funding for Support Coordination to set up and coordinate your services and supports. The NDIS defines Support Coordination as “assistance to strengthen participants’ abilities to coordinate and implement supports and participate more fully in the community.” There are three levels of support coordination, which are funded based on individual needs: support connection, coordination of supports and specialist support coordination.

The NDIS provides assurance that people with disability will receive the necessary support. Disability could affect anyone at any time and the NDIS gives the country genuine peace of mind.
