How to Choose An Appropriate Duvet Tog?

Posted by Amilee Ava on November 13th, 2020

On cold winter nights, you're unlikely to need more than 13.5 tog duvets to be honest unless your bedroom is especially cold, or you're older and feel colder. Kids or those who get hot in bed will probably never need a 13.5 tog duvet, regardless of whether it's winter or not, especially if your house is well heated or insulated. If you're in that band, go for a 7.5 tog duvet or lower even in the winter months.

In terms of TOG scores, we have summarized the key warmer duvets below, but think about fillings too. This is a significant option when looking for a warmer duvet and investing more money.

Twelve Tog Duvets

Less common, but if you have a colder house or get hot in bed but still want a cozy duvet in the winter months, it will probably be perfect for you.

Fifteen Tog Duvets

Okay, now that you're just talking about super warm duvets, 15.0 tog is really as warm as it's going to get. If you want to keep the heating on, much too warm, but if you enjoy cool. Even in the depths of winter, each air from an open window, then this is the TOG for you! If you only manage to wriggle out in the morning, beware of the shock of the air.

Really, duvet fillings are vital

Keep in mind that synthetic / polyester winter duvets tog can get really warm and are often a little bulky because more filling is required to get more air. In our view, natural fillings at this tog stage are best as they are also breathable and help control the temperature of your body as well as keep you toasty. At this weight, Down will be lighter than feather and the higher quality down, the warmer it will carry you for the same amount of filling: If your budget can't expand to pure down, a down / feather combination is always a good compromise. Rating means

Many of us have seen Tog Values on duvets, but maybe they don't really know what they really mean. A Tog is a thermal insulation indicator in a strictly empirical context, with a low number suggesting a very low insulation level and a high number suggesting something that will keep you as warm as toast on even the coldest nights of winter.

However, a higher Tog value is not necessarily better because when your body is kept at a cool to normal temperature, most people sleep more soundly. So most sleep experts agree that the thermostat should be set to about 65 F or 18 C and a duvet that is tailored for the season of the year should regulate your body temperature.

Ideally, that means selecting a Tog value in summer of 3.5 to 7.5, shifting in spring and autumn to anything between 7.5 and 10.5. Then you should buy a duvet with a Tog value of 13.5 to 15.0. If you want to keep warm in bed during the entire winter.

Caring your duvet

It will help you get great sleep night after night if you take care of your duvet. We recommend that every 6-12 months you wash your duvet. For clarification on washing temperatures and whether it can be tumble dried, always check the care mark on the duvet. It might be easier to wash these in your nearest launderette because of the size of some of our duvets. Their high capacity machines for washing and drying can take care of your duvet quickly. Make sure your duvet is fully dry before using it again, to prevent the filling clumping together or being ruined.

Size selecting

We suggest that you select the size of a duvet that fits the size of your bed. For example, a double duvet would be the best match if you have a double bed. You would like a bigger duvet if you share a bed, so there is plenty to go around. In this case, for the extra amount of duvet, pick a king duvet if you have a double bed.
