There are a variety of things and places you could go to that cater to the locals as well as to the tourists who come here for the snow. Calgary Nightlife cannot be explored in one street; you would have to visit the different neighborhoods to get the feel of what Nights are like. For instance, Kensington has a range of bars and cafes that are more laid back. On 17th Avenue West of the 4th Street, you’ll start finding pubs that have more character and draw a certain kind of crowd. You could go pub-crawling, if that’s your thing and you will find a diverse mixture of people as you move from one neighborhood to the next but if you want some culture there’s always the theatres like Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium (or the Jube as it is fondly known) that puts out opera and classical music nights. Here are some ideas on Calgary Nightlife • Flames Central Canadians love their sports and what better way to spend the night out with the boys in a bar with three floors of HD TV’s showing every game being played anywhere at anytime (as long as it’s being streamed on satellite TV). There are private lounges that you could reserve for you and your friends to make a real night of it. The thing is, every night is game night in Canada and Hockey season is the best so expect a packed house for hockey nights. • The Drum & Monkey This is one of those quirky places you might miss unless you are a local or know a local who knows about it. It’s easy to miss because it’s sits in-between other bars and eateries. It has a laid back vibe and the drinks are easy for anyone who is out partying on a budget. It usually get some crowds spilling over on Fridays and Saturdays from the place next door called Bamboo which has a DJ or live music on those days. It’s a two-storey club with five bars and DJs that play popular house music. • HiFi If you love variety then you’ll hear different sounds that range from house, disco, soul and techno music then HiFi on 10th Avenue SW is the ideal place for you. This club, small as it might look to some doubles as a live music venue on Saturdays. • Beat Niq Jazz & Social Club For a more mature Calgary nightlife you might want to try this award winning Calgary nightclub, which caters to a more mature crowd with refined tastes. There’s Jazz music on some nights and on others you might encounter some flamenco.
