Physical treatment, commonly known as physical therapy, is an area of Medicine dedicated to the study, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of bodily disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Physical therapists are included in healing chronic and acute pain, coping with disorders of the musculoskeletal system, disorders of the bone and soft tissues, neurological disorders, sports injuries, and neuromuscular disorders. Conditions treated by physical therapists include stress fractures, sprains, whiplash, meningitis, cerebral palsy, birth defects, development delays in children, birth injuries, improvement delays in adults, cracks, hip/pelvis injuries, fractures, ligament injuries, tendonitis, along with muscular and skeletal disorders. Physical therapy can be broadly divided into bodily physical therapy and geriatric physical therapy. The scope of what is physical therapy could consist of working closely with the patient to reduce pain, increase assortment of movement, return power to muscle, and increase endurance. The physical therapist will instruct the patient about appropriate techniques for carrying out regular daily tasks and finding rest when needed. In more severe cases, where the injury or condition poses a threat to the patient's overall health, surgical procedures might be required. When nonsurgical methods of treatment are insufficient or prove to be unsuccessful, physical therapists can refer their patients to physicians for further aid. Physical therapists aren't limited to just treating patients with serious ailments.
