4 Firearms That are Way Too Much Fun to Shoot

Posted by GunBroker.com on January 11th, 2021

There is simply no way to list here every firearm that is way too much fun to shoot. As a compromise, this is a list of firearms that a civilian would have reasonable access to. For instance, the legendary FN Herstal produces a variety of guns that would undoubtedly be a blast, so to speak, to shoot. However, without some great connections or a whole lot of time, money, and paperwork, most people are not going to be able to pick up a full-auto FN SCAR or FN P90. They could and should, however, give an FN Five seveN a spin.

Kel-Tec PMR 30

Even as a concept, the Kel-Tec PMR 30 is an impressive gun. It is extremely lightweight and generally inexpensive. It is chambered in the often underrated 22 WMR/22 Mag cartridge and feels almost insubstantial while surprisingly tough and reliable. With a 30+1 capacity it is great fun to shoot. The 22 WMR has some punch while delivering little kick, despite how lightweight the pistol itself is. Plus, running 30 cartridges from one mag is a treat. For more high-capacity Kel-Tec rimfire fun, give the Kel-Tec CP33 a go.

FN Five seveN

The FN Five seveN has developed an entirely understandable cult following. FN’s proprietary 57x28mm cartridge is hot, firing fast, flat, and far. The FN Five seveN is, in fact, like the super cool bigger cousin of the Kel-Tec PMR 30. Both feature a lightweight, largely polymer construction. Both also feature exceptionally low-recoil for their weight, and an impressive capacity, with the Five seveN’s standard 20-round mag.

Remington 51

The Remington 51 is a pistol that is now over a century old and remains a masterpiece of ergonomic shooting that remains virtually unrivaled. This unique pistol was designed by John Pederson, a man who was well respected by John Moses Browning. The underrated Remington was expensive when first produced and featured complex internal mechanics, so it never really took off. That is a shame because it is such a comfortable, intuitive pistol that it was advertised as “self-aiming.”

M1 Garand

It can certainly be argued that the semi-automatic M1 Garand gave American GIs in WWII a distinct advantage over the bolt-action rifles that dominated the Axis nations’ armories. In addition to being a technological leap forward for the era, the M1 Garand is also great fun to shoot. The rifle feels light but solid and is somehow innately satisfying to shoot. Perhaps more satisfying still is the iconic “ping” produced when the stripper clip used to load it is ejected after it is spent.
