5 Bad Dental Habits You Should Start Changing This 2021

Posted by Riverside Dental Clinic on January 14th, 2021

Make this the year you have a more beautiful smile. There might be some areas in your oral health that could use some improvement and you might have some bad dental habits that need to change this year.

These are just some of the dental habits that you should start changing this year:

1. Brushing your teeth too fast.

If you are like most people, you probably don’t spend a lot of time brushing your time. The ideal time for brushing the teeth is two minutes. But this year, you might want to make that longer. This is to ensure that you cover all the areas of the mouth and get rid of the collected biofilm on the surface. Brush for 2-3 minutes.

Make sure you linger on the different zones of the mouth, particularly at the back areas to cover all the important areas that need to be cleaned.

2. Forgetting to floss.

Forgetting to floss the teeth can increase the likelihood of cavities. Bacteria can inch their way in your gums and to the roots of your teeth in the spots between the teeth. This is where food residues get stuck as well, which is why bacteria target these areas.

Make sure you floss in between your teeth after brushing. When using dental floss, scrape up even at the gum line, which is where the bacteria also tend to linger.

3. Not seeing your dentist in Kamloops BC regularly.

Did you forget to see your Dentist in Kamloops BC last year? You should visit your dentist in Kamloops BC at least two times a year to get your teeth and gums checked and to get a dental cleaning treatment. That is a maintenance step that can go a long way in preventing the prevalence of cavities.

This year, schedule a checkup with a dental clinic like Riverside Dental Clinic. You should be one step ahead of your oral health. Look for a dentist in Kamloops BC that will give you a high level of care.

4. Gritting your teeth.

Stop grinding or gritting your teeth. When you grit or grind your teeth, you inflict damage to the structure and enamel of the teeth, leading to the appearance of cracks and chips. Some do it subconsciously and others grind their teeth in their sleep. You can go to your dentist and get an oral device to keep the teeth healthy.

5. Not minding what you are eating or drinking.

Be more mindful of what you ingest. Loading up on foods that contain a lot of sugars can put you at risk of weight gain and cavities. Avoid drinking a lot of sugary and carbonated drinks as well.

These are the bad habits that you need to change if you want to improve your oral health.
