There are already films about the Easter Bunny ("Hop - Easter Bunny or Superstar"), about the Sandman ("The Sandman") and about the Tooth Fairy ("The Curse of Darkness Falls"). And so many are made about Santa Claus that listing them would be tantamount t

For centuries the dark pitch (voice in the original: Jude Law) had disappeared into oblivion. But now he returns with a plan to turn the sweet dreams of the children into dark nightmares and to cover the world with darkness. XMovies of light want to stop him: Santa Claus (Alec Baldwin), the Easter bunny (Hugh Jackman, German voice: Matze Knop), the tooth fairy (Isla Fisher, Hannah Herzsprung) and the silent sandman. But before the quartet goes into the decisive battle, the man in the moon elects a new member to strengthen the team: Jack Frost (Chris Pine, Florian David Fitz). The pleasure-loving youngster, who unnoticed by the little ones ensures fun in the snow and ice, initially doesn't see why he should join the guardians. Going tobogganing and conjuring up ice crystals on window panes is much more fun than struggling with Pitch and his sooty minions ... In 2011, the author ("Epic - Hidden Kingdom") and designer ("Toy Story") William Joyce tried his hand at directing for the first time - and one for his extraordinary short animation film "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore" Oscar dusted! In the filming of his children's book series "The Guardians of Childhood" he has left the direction of his experienced colleague Peter Ramsey ("Monsters vs. Aliens"), while the screenplay by David Lindsay-Abaire ("Inkheart") was written, but that doesn't mean Joyce's exuberant imagination isn't reflected in the film. So Santa Claus is wise, but he can also give out quite a bit when it matters. With his "Naughty" and "Nice" tattoos as well as his rough Russian dialect, this Santa definitely stands out from the omnipresent Coca-Cola Santa Claus. The Australian Easter Bunny with its boomerangs (spoken in the English original including a terrific down-under accent by the Australian Hugh Jackman) is an amusing variation. And finally the public favorite turns out to be the Sandman, who does not speak, but communicates by means of small sand figures in the form of a charade guessing game. Only with the tooth fairy did the makers not think of anything groundbreaking. But since this character has not been seen that often in the cinema anyway, that's not a problem either. The fight of the guardians against pitch is about showing the children their belief in Christmas, Easter and the tooth fairy penny under the pillow, but "The Guardians of Light" is by no means sentimental. Instead, action, speed and humor largely determine what happens The joke feeds mainly on the little quarrels between the guardians (mainly between Jack Frost and the Easter Bunny), but the hustle and bustle in the background is always full of little gags: the clumsy, constantly quarreling elves who believe the Christmas presents to tinker while in truth the furry yetis do all the work, are strongly reminiscent of the yellow minions from "I - Despicable Me". watch movies online free whatever? The little useless people are still funny! In the end, the consistent avoidance of kitsch is at the same time the only major point of criticism: Although this is always about the magic of childhood, besides a connecting snowball fight, it is never really clear what it actually consists of. At least a short excursion to more sensitive areas would probably not have done any harm to bring the viewer's heart up a little more between all the action. The fact that most of the time in "The Guardians of Light" prevails at a speed similar to that of a rollercoaster ride is primarily due to the heroes' preferred modes of transport. Like Santa Claus being without regard for losses
