From used containers, some useful applications can be derived. The economy is raising commodity prices in today's global scenario, as society reaps what it has sown from nature. As rates rise and employers begin to lay off staff, more people are homeless and finding ways of paying bills.

Community service organisations build apartments, condos, studios and other shelter camps using second-hand shipping containers. Two and three-story apartment buildings have already been popular in London. For homeless residents, who apply, several units can be rented out or purchased out for reduced rates.

The bulk shipping containers in Amsterdam are used on school sites to build dormitories for pupils. Accommodation and facilities are based on the student's financial capacity. For 1 to 6 persons, room sizes can be perfect. There are air-conditioned rooms, showers, and bathrooms. The dorm has full rooms of chaos, areas of action, reception areas, lounges and more.

After Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, several relief organisations built temporary homes and permanent homes with used containers. They are special and attractive in nature and they are complete with the requisite housing facilities.

The same occurrence occurred when Haiti was devastated by a powerful earthquake. Organizations are organising operations to collect additional funds to finance the initiative to create a small community of steel container houses.

Behind the projects are professionals from varied fields. Seismic activity and the strengths of hurricanes are taken into account in houses, for example, so that if disasters arise again, they are not easily damaged. For each herb, there's also a separate garden. The scheme is estimated to include two million Haitians.

Resort homes, in some parts of the islands, often come from used shipping containers. Side by side and top by bottom, the containers are assembled to create a house on two floors with a bar, living room, master's office, bedroom, kitchen, dining area, 2nd floor balcony and toilet and bathroom.
