5 Things You Should Never Say to Someone Who Had a Miscarriage

Comforting someone who had a miscarriage in North Vancouver is never easy. You can never find the right words to console them, not with such a big loss. Because of this, some people might be awkward with their words and might end up saying things that are more hurtful than comforting.

The following are some examples of what not to say to someone who has had a Miscarriage in North Vancouver:

1. That was not a real baby yet.

To say that the baby wasn’t real because you couldn’t see actual body parts yet is cruel. Lives start with just a formation in the womb so the baby was already alive the moment a heartbeat was detected. The baby might not have grown and the pregnancy might not have progressed but that baby in the womb was a real person.

2. You can just get pregnant again.

The truth is, getting pregnant is not always easy for women. People just assume that if you try to have a baby, it can just happen right away. Infertility is such a big issue these days with many women grappling with it. To say that to someone who might have gone through a lot to get pregnant only to lose the baby is truly hurtful.

3. You probably shouldn’t have done this/that

Putting the blame on the expectant mother is the worst thing you can say to her. She’s probably already feeling guilty about losing the baby and is probably beating herself up for not being able to hold on to her little one. You’re just adding to the guilt by saying she might have done something to cause the miscarriage. Miscarriages happen for a lot of reasons and most often, it’s nobody’s fault.

4. It’s just not meant for you.

Losing a child stays with you forever. It doesn’t matter what people think about whether it’s destined for you or not. The grief stays. So, saying to someone that she should snap out of her grief just because it’s not meant for her is not good.

5. At least you lost the child early

At least you did not lose the baby in the later stages of the pregnancy – these are words that can hurt someone so much. No matter how advanced the pregnancy is, losing a child is still a devastating blow.
