How are Mobile Apps Revolutionizing Automotive Industry

Posted by Katie Winston on January 20th, 2021

The race is underway and Tesla has a considerable lead from the rest of the pack.

The race, as you would have already realized, is among car manufacturers who use mobile technology. While Tesla is relatively new to the game, it leads the industry because of its extensive use of mobile technology in its cars. From summoning to locking and unlocking, to remote engine start/stop, to temperature control, and so on and so forth, the features that car manufacturers are providing in all their flagship cars, and in a few cases mid-range cars as well, is bewildering!

Apps are the vogue now! When they first came into existence, many thought that they would be limited to smartphones. With this limitation, a fear arose, that apps development would eventually phase out. A decade later, apps have practically integrated themselves into all aspects of our lives, our cars even!

Offering something radical is increasingly becoming a norm for/in the automotive industry. For instance, something as simple as being able to adjust the temperature a few minutes before you enter your car was considered revolutionary. However, intelligent temperature control, passenger temperature setting, etc. have overtaken plain and simple temperature control during the last few years.

So, what is the relationship between mobile technology and the automotive industry?

With everything that is going on in the automotive industry, it is safe to say that it is on the cusp of one of the biggest revolutions in its long and illustrious history. Car manufacturers are constantly innovating to make their products stand out from the competition. Merely imitating the competition does garner some initial interest but will not prove to be a deciding factor while purchasing.

In the 21st century, an organization will be called a successful car manufacturer if it transforms itself into or functions like a high-technology company. Automobile manufacturers should not consider the car as just a device for mobility, but a mobile device. This transition should be made only to enrich the user experience.

As we know, the auto industry is heavily dependent on computer technology. There are many programs and software in a car that control the entertainment systems, navigation, pollution avoidance systems, and comfort & safety solutions. The latest cars are just as connected to the internet as a smartphone. This connectivity will only increase product offerings in terms of functionality and features.

Additionally, cars and vehicles, in general, can access and act upon information, both internal and external, from real-time traffic data, to movie downloads for passengers, to engine performance based on usage, the possibilities are many.

What will the future hold?

If mobile technology becomes a stalwart for the automotive industry, the potential that the industry holds is infinite. Exchanging information such as road conditions, current speed, location, performance, with other vehicles can prove to be useful to avoid accidents, manage to park, and traffic flow. These are just a few possibilities that we have listed.

For the automotive industry, the essential point to consider is convenience. It plays a crucial part for your customers. It pushes them to choose your product over your competition’. Hence the marriage between mobile technology and the automotive industry is expected to be a fruitful one. We have seen a few automobile manufacturers fusing these two entities to form a better product line-up. What are your thoughts about this blog post?
