How to Hook Up LED Trailer Lights
Your trailer's lights are one of its most important safety features. The lights make your trailer more noticeable to other motorists and let them know when you are turning or stopping. Due to their longevity and toughness, LED lights are increasing in popularity. Converting your trailer from incandescent to LED lights is not difficult. You can perform this conversion in your garage or driveway in just a couple of hours.
Instructions1Remove the existing lights, housings and wiring from the trailer.
2Slide the threaded posts on the light marked "LH" through the mounting holes on the rear left mounting bracket. Ensure that the marker light is to the outside of the trailer. Thread the included nuts onto the posts and turn them until they are finger tight. Turn the nuts an additional 1/2 turn clockwise with a nut driver.
3.Slide the threaded posts on the light marked "RH" through the mounting holes on the rear right mounting bracket. Ensure that the marker light is to the outside of the trailer. Thread the included nuts onto the posts and turn them until they are finger tight. Turn the nuts an additional 1/2 turn clockwise with a nut driver.
4Slide the threaded posts on the license-plate mount through the mounting holes on the bracket above the rear left light housing. Thread the included nuts onto the posts and turn them until they are finger tight. Turn the nuts an additional 1/2 turn clockwise with a nut driver.
5Mount the yellow marker lights on the sides of the trailer using the included screws.
6Run two brown wires from the trailer wiring harness along the bottom of the frame from the tongue of the trailer to the rear lights. Run the green wire from the harness along the same path to the light on the rear right of the trailer. Run the yellow wire to the rear left light. Secure the wires along the frame using the included wire clips.
7Connect the side-marker light on the right side of the trailer to the nearest brown wire using the included splice. Connect the side-marker light on the left side of the trailer to the nearest brown wire using the included splice.
8Connect the brown wire on the right side of the trailer to the brown wire coming from the right rear light of the trailer using the included connector. Connect the brown wire on the left side of the trailer to the brown wire coming from the left rear light of the trailer using the included connector. Connect the brown wire from the license-plate mount to the brown wire on the left side of the trailer using the included connector.
9Connect the green wire to the right rear light using the included connector. Connect the yellow wire to the left rear light using the included connector.
10Connect the white wire from the trailer wiring harness to a metal ground on the frame of the trailer.
11Connect the trailer harness plug to the tow vehicle harness plug. Test the trailer lights for proper operation. Check all connections and fuses if the lights don't work properly
