What is the Best Way to Learn Texas Hold'em?

Texas Hold 'Em Poker is a card game that rewards good play. There is some luck involved, but a good player will beat bad players the majority of the time. Make sure that you know the rules in order to increase the chances of winning.

History:

Texas Hold 'em is one of the most popular variants of online poker games. Hold ‘em’s simplicity and popularity have also inspired a wide variety of strategy books which can provide recommendations for proper play. The popularity of the game surged in the 2000s due to its exposure on TV, on the internet, and in popular literature. Its No-limit betting form is used in a wide variety of televised main events of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and the World Poker Tour (WPT).

a)      Know the Position

The best position while playing Texas Hold 'Em is "on the button." When you are in this position, you are the last person to act in three out of the four rounds of betting, after the flop, the turn, and the river. When it is your turn, you will know how many players are still in hand, and you can decide how much to bet.

The worst position in this game is to be in the small blind. After the flop, the turn, and the river, you need to act first. Sometimes you can even use this to your advantage by playing aggressively.

Always remember to focus on the total number of players who are at the table. A hand, which shouldn’t be played with seven players, must be strong when you're down to two or three as there is less competition at the table.

b)      Concentrate on the Opponents

It is pretty easy to get caught up in the hand that you have and lose sight of the opponents. So you must be aware of how many chips they have, what cards they could have, and their best hand with the present community cards you share with everyone else.

By watching players, it can tend to be helpful. Try to determine who bluffs and who plays a tighter game. If a player loses in a fairly big hand and then comes right back with a big bet which player might be betting recklessly out of frustration.

c)      Don’t let the Opponents See the Flop for Free

If you have a hand that is strong, enough to see the flop then don’t let other players see it for free. At least raise by the minimum bet. Newbies love to see the flop as cheaply as possible which is dangerous to let them do it.

d)      Don’t Be Afraid to Get out of the Flop

Folding a hand after the flop is difficult for beginners which can cause you to lose a lot of chips. When you start with a great hand, then the flop can kill you.

e)      Play Smart on the Turn and River

By following some simple tips, it will help you to make a better player at the turn and the river:

  • When you are learning how to play poker and holding a draw after the turn, i.e., you need one card more to make a good hand that is typically a straight or flush, try to get the river as cheaply as possible.

  • If you are also sure that you have the best possible hand after the turn, then make it expensive for the opponents to see the river.

  • If the community cards presented include a pair, remember that you may be up against a full house.

  • If a board shows three cards of the same suit, then watch out for an opponent holding a flush.
