Why Does Your Shower Keep Running Out of Warm Water? FACTS REVEALED

Posted by PGD Plumbing & Heating on February 8th, 2021

This is a very common question which most homeowners ask their service providers time after time.  And truth be told; there are no one reason which causes this issue.

IF… your shower is now producing any hot water, then it could be due to these common causes.

-          Broken down dip tubes

-          Heating elements

-          Buildup of sedimentary

-          Even leaks

And so on!

That said, there still no precise way to tell why you keep running out of hot water- expect perhaps summoning a revered Plumbing and heating company in Country Meath.

You can cry out for assistance when that situation arises. But before you do that you need to check for clues yourself so that you can at least get an idea of what’s happening.

Check out these scenarios which may help you firstly relate to yourself and then possible determine their cause.

Let’s Start!

Random spurts of hot and cold water

While showering, if you experience random spurts of hot and cold water; then the cause of concern could be due to sediment build-up within your water heater tank.

When you have hard water, sediments tend to accumulate faster. The same thing can be said then your pipes are old and the anode rod is almost worn down.

One smart way by which you can end this is by flushing and draining the tank properly. Try and do it at least once in a year. That said, even after periodic flushing and draining, if the issue remains, then it could be that you may have to replace the old tank.

But before you do anything, work with these tips and possibly summon professional plumbers in your area to lend you wisdom and a helping hand.

The Water is Luke Warm (Give or take)

The cold water gets pushed down to the base of the tank with the water heater’s dip tube. At the base, the lower elements heat it up prior to being used.

But, if the heater’s dip tube is, unfortunately, suffering from leakage, then the cold water replacements get mixed with the hot water, which is already inside the tank.

This mixture results in the lukewarm water which you get while showering.  One proactive way to determine whether your dip tube is damaged is if you find tiny of plastic in both your sink strainers and showerheads.

Take them off and check for debris and small plastic pieces.  Once you find anything, be prepared to replace your existing dip tube by appointing professional plumbing specialists to take care of it.

(WORST CASE SCENARIO…) You Don’t Get Any Hot Water

This one’s a real shocker.

Imagine you having to get out of bed in one early winter morning. And in your half-sleep, just when you’re about to turn the shower on; instead of warm (and somewhat comfortable) water; you get chilly water.

Yup… we’ve all been there!

Now, it is the thermostat which dictates how much the water warms up. You set the temperature and the thermostat components heats up the water.

But, if despite setting the thermostat temp, the water still comes out cold, it could be that the thermostat is either set inappropriately or malfunctioned.

You can use the manual to troubleshoot the issue yourself. But if despite your efforts, there is no real change; you should enlist help from professional plumbing and Bathroom refurbishment specialists near County Meath.
