Vehicle is Creating Innumerable Opportunities for Ballistic Composites

Ballistic composites are highly durable and lightweight but at the same time exhibiting excellent resilience and impact resistance. When it comes to protecting a vehicle from impacts, the use of ballistic composites has several advantages over traditional lightweight materials such as aluminum, steel, and cloth. With traditional armor, the entire structure of the vehicle is weakened by the impacts with other vehicles. This creates an increase in the probability of shrapnel or objects penetrating the vehicle and potentially injuring the passengers or the driver. With the use of composites, the entire structure of the vehicle is strengthened by the material itself, which increases the overall protection of the vehicle's interior from outside impacts.

As with traditional armor, lighter is not always better when it comes to selecting lightweight armor. The reason is that lighter armor does not increase the size of the armor panels to the same extent that heavier material exhibits higher impact resistance. Because of this, larger diameter materials are utilized in the production of ballistic composites and their use is key to the success of the product in increasing bullet and armor penetration performance.

There is a number of advantage associated with the composites including the ability of the material to withstand greater stress in a variety of environments. Another important factor is that this type of armor has the ability to expand along with both its thickness and length to account for varying stresses while resisting the effects of impacts that occur in an environment where this type of protective material is used. When this occurs, it makes the material stronger than it would be if it were thin in one dimension. This is important because the vehicles that will be using this armor have a tremendous need for increased strength in their armor, as it is a necessary component in the design of the vehicle and the protection of the passenger within it.
