What is an MRI scan?

MRI is a test that reconstructs the structure of the human body into a cross section by using the interaction of a strong magnetic field and high frequency. Since it is possible to accurately identify the deformation of the anatomy of the human body, functional disorders, and pathological information, diagnosis and treatment of various diseases It is a test that is very helpful to you.

MRI examination method

When the test starts, a strong noise is made, so earplugs are provided.

The test time usually takes about 20 to 90 minutes, and the time required varies depending on the test site and whether or not a contrast agent is used.

During the examination, a contrast agent (injection) is put on the arm for a more effective diagnosis.

Contrast side effects: Contrast agents may rarely cause side effects depending on the patient's constitution, and may range from mild symptoms such as local heat, pain, allergies to skin or mucous membranes, hives, itching, nausea, etc. to severe shock.

Precautions before inspection

MRI with contrast media requires fasting before testing. (Adults: fast for 8 hours, those with diabetes: fast for 4 hours)

However, even if you are fasting, you can take the blood pressure medication prescribed by the hospital with a small amount of water. Also, if you have diabetes, do not take insulin injections and diabetes medications while you are fasting.

In some cases, the examination time may be slightly delayed in the case of an emergency patient and the situation of the previous examination.

An intravenous injection must be secured before the test for the injection of contrast agent and sedation if necessary.

If you are pregnant or expecting to become pregnant, please inform the MRI staff or nurse before the examination.

Since the inside of the MRI laboratory is an area where a strong magnetic field is generated, among the following items, those who are attached to the body or who are implanted need careful attention, and in some cases, it may cause dangerous results, so please inform the person in charge of the MRI room or the nurse in advance.
