Winter hats are necessary accessories during the cold weather. When shopping for designer hats to add to your collection, there are several things that you should consider apart from material, color and style. Popular hat types that designers uses in their creations include trucker and ski hats, beanies, and the Russian Ushnaka. Winter hats are made of warm materials like cotton, wool, fleece, and polyester, or a combination of these warm and comfy fabrics. Here are some of the most popular staples in the winter hat racks of designers:

  • Ski Hats – No winter wardrobe is complete without a ski hat. Its unique design ensures protection for the wearer's head as it uses head-hugging materials, which not only helps keep the hat in place but provides excellent insulation while keeping body heat from escaping. Wool isthe most desirable material for ski hats, although they also come in cotton, fleece, polyester, and even acrylic.
  • Beanies –Beanies are much like ski hats. They tightly hug the head. They, however, are much tighter than ski hats, why many designers refer to them as gloves for the head. They don't have brims and they come in practically the same materials used for ski hats.
  • Trucker hats – Trucker winter hats are similar in shape and form to a baseball cap, but with slight differences. They have 6 mesh panels, meeting with a button on top of the hat and a semi-rounded bill. Their front panel, uses foam instead of cotton fabrics, making trucker hats more comfortable to wear.
  • Russian Ushanka – The ultimate winter hat, Russian Ushankas are specifically built for the cold weather. They come in many unique styles and looks, including cadet or military style, aviator or trapper style, and cossack style. Some come with fur or faux fur while others use sheepskin. The most distinctive characteristic of the Russian Ushanka is the ear flap, which can be worn over the years or propped up on top of the head. The ear flaps provide added comfort and warmth for the wearer. These hats are typically bushy-looking, which adds to their unique style.
