Coat Care Tips for Cats

Your cat is pretty good at maintaining her coat. Cats spend hours every day grooming themselves, but that doesn’t mean they can’t use a little help now and then. Here, your vet Davie, FL tells you how to make sure your cat’s coat stays in tip-top shape. 

Brush your cat.

There’s nothing like brushing your cat’s fur on a regular basis. This removes loose and dead hair from the coat, making for an altogether healthier coat of fur. Brushing also gets rid of grime underneath the fur and spreads skin oils throughout the coat, moisturizing it naturally. And that reduces shedding! 

Bathe occasionally.

Your cat won’t like it, but giving her the occasional bath is a good idea. Always use a shampoo made specifically for cats, as other shampoos could irritate your pet’s sensitive skin. And don’t bathe too frequently, as this can dry out the skin and fur and make for a dull, coarse coat with more shedding.

Feed a great diet.
