The invention of antimicrobial coating is not an accident. For many years medicine badly needed this invention and with the development of surgery and implants this need has only increased. So, let's take a look at some possible uses of antimicrobial coating in medicine.

The development of prosthetic care has brought about new sterility and safety demands.

Most implants have to have special coating on them. This coating needs to combine several functions, such as protecting implants from highly aggressive biological body environment. Plus, it has to possess germ killing properties to keep patients healthy. That is another implementation for antimicrobial coating in medicine.

Now the unique properties of such coatings make surfaces safer and less care demanding. Antimicrobial coating slows down or completely suppresses bacteria growth on the coated surfaces. This way, it does not demand any additional antibacterial treatment. Surfaces stay germ free long after being cleaned. This also means the decrease of care and cleaning needed for keeping those surfaces sterile.

This way doctors can hope to cut down by half the risks for patients to develop infections caught in the hospitals or surgery rooms. Plus, they may cut down the amount of chemicals used for sterilization. These chemicals can have many side effects both for medical workers and for patients.
