If you suspect that you are being spied upon right inside your office or your own residence, you need not worry. There are ways that you can sweep for electronic bugs so they won’t expose your secrets.

You might have one or two in your office or home if you have business competitors who would like to pry out some of your company secrets. Even if you don’t know anything about electronic bugs, if you will follow the steps in this article, these devices won’t give you a problem.

Hire a professional electronic bug sweeper, if you have ample reasons to believe that your premises are bugged. This is the best and most convenient way. Of course, you can do it yourself but it will take you time. A professional knows where and what to look for, because of his experience.

  1. Before hiring an employee, especially one who will function in a critical position, perform extensive background investigations. The best way to do this is to hire a professional investigator who has extensive experience in employee background checks.
  2. Be wary of people who offer you secret information. Just consider how they may have surreptitiously accessed this information.
  3. Watch out for unauthorized visits from technicians from the phone or cable company. Any unrequested visit should be treated as suspect. This goes also to AC repair and other types of technicians.
  4. Be careful about unsolicited gifts that you receive from people that you really don’t know, or some company advertising their wares. These gifts may contain electronic bugs that will expose your secrets.
  5. Watch out for unidentified vehicles spending considerable time in your premises, or a vehicle that tails you wherever you go. They may have bugged your car to listen to your conversations. Be wary of these vehicles especially if their windows are heavily tinted.

If you see a vehicle for many hours or worse, for many days near your vicinity, its occupants may be stalking you.

Listen to unusual noises on your phone or unusual reception as you receive outside calls. Some of the noises you must watch out for are pops, scratches, clicks, echoes and volume changes.

If you notice your phone making some noises while it is on its hook, you should sweep it for bugs or give it to someone who knows how to do it.

Thoroughly sweep the room that is suspected to be bugged. Don’t leave anything unturned. If there are things in the room that seem out of place, it is an indication that someone bugged it.

You need to check every item such as the lighting fixtures, wall switches, clocks, outlet plates, smoke alarms, exit signs and so forth.
