Somewhere in the range of 1989 and 1995, Monken bobbed around as a colleague at Hawaii, Arizona State and Buffalo, prior to turning into a secondary school lead trainer at Cicero Morton in 1995. A few years after the fact, he was recruited as Georgia Southern's running backs mentor, where he would remain for four seasons. With a stop at Navy in the middle, Monken in 2010 leaped to lead trainer at Georgia Southern — driving it to a 38-16 record in four years.
