Scatec Solar selects Swinerton to built 104MW Utah plant

Norway’s Scatec Solar has selected Swinerton Renewable Energy as the main EPC contractor to build a 104MWp PV power plant in Utah.
The company will build and then provide operations and maintenance services for the Utah Red Hills Renewable Park, which is due to be completed later this year.
The 104MW project forms part of an ambitious international project drive by Scatec Solar, under which it hopes to build 750MW of projects by 2016. Last year the company completed a US123 million flotation on the Oslo stock exchange to help fund its ambitions.
Scatec Solar has so far built projects in South Africa, Rwanda and the Czech Republic and developed a pipeline in countries including Jordan, Mali and Honduras, but Red Hills marks its first foray into the US market.
Earlier this year Scatec Solar revealed that it had attracted one big-name investor to back the project – the internet giant Google.
"The Utah Red Hills Renewable Park will provide the residents of Utah access to the superb solar power potential available in their state," said Luigi Resta, managing director of Scatec Solar North America. "After several years of developing this project, Scatec Solar is proud to partner with Swinerton Renewable Energy to build the first utility-scale PV project in Utah."
Utah Red Hills will be built on a 650-acre site in Iron County and will eventually feed power into the grid under a 20-year power purchase agreement with utility Rocky Mountain Power. Annual output is expected to total 210 million kWh.
