Where Would We Be Without Google?Posted by Branin on August 11th, 2010 Where Would We Be Without Google? How Would Technology and the World We Live in Be Affected? Have
you ever stopped and wondered where we may be today without all of the
websites we use to keep us connected? I remember it like it were only
yesterday, seeing advertisements on the T.V. announcing popular web
search engine Yahoo! or the infamous AOL advertisements that once
flooded the market. If you look back, the changes in how most of us live
today compared to back then, the results are almost stunning.
Information now comes to us right through the tip's of our fingers
through the click of a button. In this article I will highlight some of
the most popular websites of our time, and discuss where we might be
without them. Who knows, maby one day we will look back on the Internet
of our time and laugh, or, it may be just the opposite! One major website that has really created a lasting affect over the years is Google, started in 1996, however the company was founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, their aim was to create a source for information in which the world could easily access, and to say the least I think they have done a fair job in doing so, fueled by their own success and profit in the advertising business, today, Google has pushed their original expectations as a company to the limit and have branched out to offer many major services such as Gmail, Adsense, Google Docs, Google Earth, and Google Voice to name only a few, However there are many more revolutionary services offered by Google that are used all over the world for business and personal related matters everyday. Some companies seek to gain customers using Google to advertise for them, which is a great deal for both parties, now in the big picture this may not seem like a big deal however, when a company is generating more business then they have ever had due to Google it may be a big deal to them! Google Adsense is also used by companies to both further said advertising methods for Google and provide advertisement to websites all over, with the hosters of the ad's making money on a pay-per-click base. Basically, It's a really fine tuned system that has been put in place by Google over the years and has caused an affect that can no longer be successfully replicated. Of course the top, and most note worthy feature to Google is none other than the search feature on their homepage, or any webpage that features the search API, of course you don't need me to explain this feature to you, however I would like you to stop and imagine how often you have used Google to search the answer for a tough question in a time of need, or when you were just bored perhaps and looking for something entertaining. If you're like me you would like the chance to personally thank the Google Guys and to shake their hand for doing such a wonderful job! Often I believe Google has exceeded the standards of any social networking website that has been said to be competiton, however some people may beg to differ *cough* Facebook. To read more about Google there is a very interesting Wiki on them which can be found here. Whatever your views may be on Google, you have to give them their credit for hard work and dedication, without them the Internet truly wouldn't be the same, I thank you for your interest, and remember.
