"Oblique" by Kevin Dunn may be the third e book in the Overwatch series. The primary character, Jackereth Reeser, is named back from active support in Africa to control an African liberation unit which is being sent to safeguard an oil rig from assault. He is a, inexperienced lieutenant who has never before operated alone in virtually any situation. As his first assignment, he and a few other soldiers get stranded deeply within enemy territory. There they must survive what is apparently an entire onslaught of enemy soldiers, incorporating members of the enemy army, while in addition fighting off attacks from regional tribes and oil workers supported by pirates. Jackereth and his comrades continue to be relatively unharmed throughout their initial stay out of the area. They are able to remain concealed until a hostile force makes their way into the rig and kills the guard that protects it. Now the only real protection they have may be the local prison in which a sympathetic American colonel will keep them as prisoners. They're attacked by several terrorists but are saved by one of the terrorists who kills the colonel. The novel is fairly successful at taking you in to the African jungle where the military operations take place. Dunn does a good career of describing the terrain and cultures of the various individuals you meet along the way. At one point, I needed to yell at somebody because I thought that the way he was talking implied he was not in the military. Although this character had not been a part of the story, it was clarified throughout the novel that he was an ex-soldier. 안전놀이터 The plot itself revolves round the relationships between several soldiers because they become separated due to personal circumstances. For example, one soldier is reassigned to a different duty station. Although it isn't explained why this happens, it is assumed that it is because of personal problems. This causes a rift within their relationship, forcing them to attempt an unusual and intriguing journey where they must rely on each other so as to survive. The heroes in the novel, without especially complex, do deliver some insight into military culture. For instance, one character is referred to as a "pistol-sniping, buccaneer-throwing" fanatic. Others are described as "possessed of both a sixth sense and a bottomless reservoir of hatred." These descriptions seem to depict members of the military as having one of a kind personalities and attitudes. Although I enjoyed the tale and enjoyed its characters, I would have liked to have seen a little more historical information in regards to what actually occurred during World War II. In addition, some of the events in the publication were predictable, including the airplane hijacking. However, these small nitpick details were effortlessly forgivable given the overall quality of the account. In this light, The Functions of overwatch is an entertaining and enlightening read.
