How to Use A Rotary Tiller Ensuring Efficiency and Safety on Your Farm

Tillage is an initial but crucial practice in farming, landscaping, and gardening. It is done through breaking up the soil to allow better aeration and water flow into the soil.  Rotary Tiller or rotavator is a tool that converts hardpan layers of the soil into usable seedbed by churning it up until the soil gets a fine structure suitable enough for planting seeds.

Many farm equipment manufacturers offer Rotary tillers in various shapes and types. Some of these can be self-propelled while others work attached to the tractors. Depending on type and size of the work, farmers need choose the right type of the tiller. The small sized tillers are generally used in home gardens and lawns, operated on two wheels and pushed from behind. While for large scale works such as farming, landscaping or construction works, heavy duty tillers with robust capabilities are used. Theses heavy duty rotavators take power from the PTO shaft on mid-sized to heavy-duty tractors.

The tractor powered rotary tiller uses a set of curved blades attached to the rotating shaft to dig the soil. The farmers need to adjust the tilling depth of the tiller as per the crop type. But ideally tilling depth is set up to six inches.

Farmers also need to make sure when buying a rotary tiller that the width of the tiller should be equal to the outer width of their tractor tires. This is essential to make sure that tilling is completed with no gaps.

Using the right type of the rotary tiller is essential to effectively decrease or minimize the time and effort needed to prepare the soil with superior results.  Ultimately the tilling process and work is made more cost-effictive and provides greater profit opportunities to farmers while minimizing or decreasing the overall maintenance costs.

Rotary tiller or rotavator is also beneficial in weed removal in lands where due to grown plants and crops chemicals cannot be used.  It is preferably used in areas affected by heavy rainfall to re-form crusted soil and dirt.

Be very cautious while using a rotary tiller on uneven ground as it can cause a rollover. If there are other people and animals working on the fields they should stay at a safe distance from the tiller.

Avoid any contact with the objects such as rocks and other foreign material when tilling your farm.  Avoid any attempt to adjust the tines or remove debris on a running machine.
