Summer is the season of the year when you need the most hydration. You can’t stop being active just because it is hot. That’s not the right approach to this seeming problem.

What you can do is to support your body with enough liquid that can come from juicy and healthy snacks that will keep you hydrated and not grow weak and weary while you’re playing. The hydration will not only keep you feeling fresh but will prolong your stamina.

Thankfully, there are hundreds of quick snack ideas that have been developed by nutritionist and health practitioners that will keep your energy up while playing under the sun. Here are some suggestions:

1.    Pina Colada Smoothie
Take ½ cup of pineapple chunks, ¼ cup of coconut water, ¼ cup of non-fat vanilla yogurt and 1 cup of ice. Blend everything until they are smooth and garnish with 1 pineapple chunk. This tropical fruit shake will only give you 79 calories.

2.    Caprese Bite
Get 1 slice of cherry tomato, and stuff it with 1/8 ounce of mozzarella cheese and 1 basil leaf. Drizzle the mix with ¼ teaspoon of olive oil. This snack is just 74 calories.

3.    Chilled Cucumber Soup
Take 1 cup of peeled and chopped cucumber, ½ cup of plain non-fat yogurt, 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh mint, a pinch of salt, and 3 ice cubes. Blend them all together. This will provide you about 79 calories.

4.    Starfruit
There’s nothing you need to do in this cool summer snack, but just take along some pieces of Starfruit and munch on them if you’re already feeling hot and tired, and you will be refreshed instantly. Its taste is similar to the taste of pineapple, and it will only give you 38 calories.

5.    Watermelon-Feta Skewers
Take 5 watermelon balls, 5 pieces of one-half inch feta cheese cubes, and 5 mint leaves on 5 skewers. Dice or ball the watermelon and eat them with the cheese cubes on the skewers. This will provide you about 46 calories. But check carefully for watermelon seeds for they are hard on the bite.

6.    Peanut Butter-Strawberry Sandwich

7.    Tiny Taco Shells
Get 2 Tostitos Scoops, each topped with one teaspoon of black beans, ½ teaspoon of shredded cheddar cheese (melted), 1 teaspoon of salsa, 1 teaspoon of cubed avocado, ½ teaspoon of sour cream and a few pieces of chopped cilantro. This is one of the fun snack ideas that will only give you about 62 calories.
