DC-DC Converters for Various Applications

Of all the DC-DC converters, one of the most popular is the 12V-to-12V DC-DC converter. DC-DC converters are used in portable devices.  They regulate supply voltages for sub-blocks on a system board.  Choosing the right setup is difficult, though. There are so many routes to go, choosing the right one can be a burden. You have tiny package parts on one hand.  On the other, there are larger parts with multiple external components.

The right factors must be considered for this to work as it is designed.  For this reason, finding the converter (or worse, making one) isn’t some DIY job for you and your buddies to do in the garage on a Saturday night… unless you are engineers!

You need to measure efficiency, output voltage ripple, and load transient regulation.  There are questions of temperature, package type, and thermal resistance.  Then, of course, you have to check the maximum operating temperature at the point of the switching converter! It’s a lot.

Off-road, military, construction, and recreation-based equipment creates the need for robust 12V-to-12V DC-DCconverters.  The systems are complex and require multiple supply voltage levels. A DC-to-DC switching converter is a key component used in multiple applications. With this simple procedure, and parameter reference, system designers can select the best switching converter for any application.
