How To Spend A Day At El Yunque National Forest In Puerto Rico

The Guajataca Forest in Isabela is in the karst region of Puerto Rico and the landscape and plant life is totally different than what we are used to seeing in the north-east of the island. I thought the best part about this forest is exploring Cueva del Viento . During a trip to the south-west part of the island, we found some diving that I would highly recommend. That region is home to "the Wall" and the diving was great! We went wall diving at La Parguera and I thought it was the best diving we have seen on PR. We recently had the opportunity to re-visit the biobay in La Parguera, after having visited it for the first time 18 years ago. To really see Puerto Rico, you need to get out and explore. Whether you are in port for the day with a cruise ship or you’ve flown in for a couple weeks, renting a car is a great way to get around. There are vacation loads of agencies that have all types of cars and vans, so even with a large family, you’re sure to find something that suits your needs. If you are looking for some nice diving, head over to Vieques. We went on their “Ponce Walking Tour” and really feel we now have a better idea of Ponce. Puerto Rico is famous for a lot of things, with rum being one of them. Back in the mid 1870s, Pedro Fernández started making rum at his home to share with his family and friends. No trip to Old San Juan is complete without a visit to this UN World Heritage Site. You need to find a place where there are things that everyone in the family can enjoy. Luckily, you are planning to visit Puerto Rico where there are many activities for every member of your family. We've put together this list with families and convenience in mind. All of these activities are within about a 1-hour drive of the San Juan area. If you want to try something new and different, definitely come during a new moon and check out one of our bioluminescent bays. If you want to see a more hip, artsy part, you should go to Ocean Park in Santurce. You can just lay there on the beach, or you can play around, too. The forest itself has no entrance fee, but access to the visitors center costs for adults and for seniors . This Blue Flag beach also has camping and picnic areas, gazebos, food kiosks, handicap-accessible areas, bathrooms and showers, plus lifeguards and police and medical emergency services. While other bio bays are seasonal, the ones in Puerto Rico can be viewed year-round. He established the first settlement at Caparra in 1508 and in 1510 he was appointed the island's first governor by Spain's King Ferdinand. The capital was transferred to its present site and named San Juan Bautista de Puerto Rico in 1521, the year of de León's death. A diverse tropical landscape awaits the visitor to the U.S. This 600 acre facility, located in the foothills of the El Yunque National Forest, offers a wide range of activities. The El Yunque National Forest is a large, lush and interesting place to visit. It easy to see the beauty, but to really know about the rain forest, an educational guided tour is great. The Federal Forest Rangers offers "Walks and Talks", that are 30 min long educational programs designed to teach you all about the El Yunque rain forest. El Yunque National Forest has many trails, streams, rivers, and waterfalls that can be enjoyed year-round. It is picture-perfect, with a protected shallow area, where you can sit and enjoy the water. And if waves are high, you can see some beautiful wave breaks as they crash into the natural rock barriers that surround the cove. The month of July is probably the busiest month here in Puerto Rico. We have lots of holidays this month, so locals take vacation in July. Combine that with the tourists spending their summer vacation on the island, and you can expect lots crowds and lots of activities happening, especially on the weekends and holidays. The month of June … It’s officially “summer” here on the island, beaches are in full swing, and tourist spots are getting more crowded. Isabela, the western-most town on the north coast, offers visitors great views and beaches. If you are like me, you will be in heaven watching the beauty of the ocean crashing onto the shore or over rocks. Though best-known for its beaches and surfing, Isabela also has a forest reserve, caves, lakes, rivers and historical sites all waiting to be explored. Guánica encompasses a large area with lots of shoreline — which, in turn, means lots of beaches. However, most of the area beaches are not protected coves, so you have to be careful of the water conditions. In the spring of 2007, the Puerto Rico Department of Natural Resources banned tour operators from allowing swimming in Laguna Grande in Fajardo. This simple act reduced the wear and tear on the biobay and allowed nature to begin undoing the damage that humans inflicted on the environment. This past year we had heard the health of the biobay was making a comeback, so we were eager to see that for ourselves. If you're looking for some casino action, Puerto Rico has something for you from Slots, to Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, Texas Hold'em and Baccarat. Casinos are located in most of the resorts and large hotels all around the island. COVID-19 UPDATE We have implemented enhanced cleaning protocols and disinfecting measures, including the use of hospital-grade, virus-killing products approved by the CDC and the U.S. Cozy 1 Bdrm Apt only 1 minute from Wyndham Margaritaville Rio Mar Resort. Feel like home with the best location in the Northeast Coast. The rainforest “El Yunke” is only 5 minutes away and Luquillo Beach 15 minutes.
