Start talking to other bands and ask for a little help. If you don't know where to start, this can be a great opportunity to make connections with other people who do. Develop a relationship with some bands that you respect and who will respect you, and then ask for a little help in pointing you in the right direction. You may be surprised where they might lead you.

You better know when it's quitting time, or you'll work yourself to death. You know its quitting time when you aren't going out anymore and you're eating dinners at your desk rather than with your family. I have a rule that I eat meals with my family away from the computer. If you want a balanced life, you need to create your own rules for what's important to you. You've got to know when to work your butt off and when to stop.

Generally, music and film productions promote through a production studio. Ask a recording studio to work up a CD for your music or film. Let the music producers do their jobs they are great at what they do and the promotions you will receive will generate more income then you can imagine.

From the bass playing perspective what is required as a player? A good all round player who is ready for the gig, a good knowledge of the bass guitar and its role. Practice and learn new ideas and techniques, be ready for new songs and material. Play what is required for the song, you may be asked when recording what to play; if you are doing session work you get paid to play what is asked! If you're doing live work playing covers play what is required for the songs you play! If you get a gig writing, that's great and you can be creative with your bass playing!

Another way to find a job as a musician is to work for another musician who is already established. You can get valuable education and make contacts as part of the musician's team. Most of the people who are great musicians today learned from other musical greats. A great musician will recognize your talent and encourage you to pursue a solo career. You can also benefit by getting recommendations from the musician to perform at events where he has been invited, but cannot attend due to other commitments.

Get out there and network with other professional musicians, practice and work on your bass playing, believe in new albums your playing and the most important thing...have fun playing the bass guitar.
