BENDING OF PIPES WITHOUT USING HEAT

Posted by venturia on June 5th, 2015

During the installation of a pipeline or making of machine parts sometimes we need to bend the pipes. Bending of pipes can be done by different methods like by heating it and then make it bend, but these methods are time taking and expensive. We have an another option for bending of the pipe very quickly and inexpensively and this method is known as cold bending. This is very inexpensive and quick method of bending pipes. Bending of pipes by this method decreases the number of welded points and make the pipes more usable. It also reduces the amount of work. If we do bend of pipes by this method then we can also maintain the quality of the pipes. During work, this process is very frequent. There are some requirements to undergo for this binding

  • Since this, bending is done without the application of some heat so we should keep in mind the dimension which a pipe should pass to undergo for this binding. Pipes having an outer diameter in the range of 17mm to 219.1mm are suitable for this binding.
  • Another thing which we should keep in our mind is the thickness of the wall. The thickness of the pipe wall should be in the range of 2.0mm to 28.0mm. Pipes having a wall thickness in this range will undergo cold bending very easily.
  • Bending radii for the pipes depend on the thickness and outer radius of the pipe. Pipes having a less thickness of the wall will bend more.

APPLICATION

Cold bending is very frequently used to make the pipes of different shape. There are so many applications of this bending method. Some common applications of the cold bending are

  • During the making of the pipeline, this bending method is frequently used because during the making of the pipeline, we encounter so many places where bending is required and for those places we do cold bending. Bending of pipelines by this method decreases the welded points and maintain the quality of the pipe.
  • Cold bending is also very frequently used during making of machine parts. For the making of machine parts, we need to bend metal rods or pipes and at that place this bending method is applied.

Cold bending is done with the machine which is very highly accurate because of this type of bending error is not acceptable.

HOW IS IT DONE?

Cold bending is done with the help of machines. To bend the pipes it is first put on a firm base and then pressure is applied to bath the end so that pipe bent in a specific order. Pressure should be calculated for different thickness of wall of pipes because the excess pressure may cause harm of pipes bending process should be very accurate because pipes are bent to make it fit for different places and if any type of inaccuracy will occur then it create a big problem.

CONCLUSION

Cold bending is very efficient and popular method to give the pipes different shape. It doesn’t require any heat so it is a very easy method. This type of bending also maintains the quality of the pipe. Click Here For More info
