For anyone who is visiting Lima for the first time, the place comes as a surprise. There are beautiful ocean-side districts such as  Miraflores and San Isidro that are so modern and well laid-out that they  have a distinctly Southern California feel to them.  The wide streets  have swaying palm trees and you will see lush lawns everywhere you look; there are comfortable houses and apartment blocks along the streets and though the place has  dreary weather for  almost  fifty  percent  of the year, there is something very alive and ticking about the place.
