It is true that you need to change some of your habits with braces in your mouth and you cannot avoid this situation. If you are planning to take up treatment of braces from Hamlin orthodontics or you already have these braces in the mouth, you might want to consider some changes to your eating habits before you get the braces.

1. Any hard foods besides candy should be avoided. This would include anything from the hard crush pizza, nuts, raw vegetables, and so on. Most of these foods require more force to bite down and if you try to eat these foods with your braces, you might end up damaging them. There are solutions for the same. For instance, if you like carrots, instead of eating them raw, you should cook them and eat them. If you have hard bread in front of you, you can dip it in some gravy or broth to soften it. The idea is to safeguard the braces and do not pressurize them.

2. Hard Meats are a no-no. You should indulge only in soft meat that will not require tough biting or chewing. Most Hamlin orthodontists will ask you to avoid eating meat because even if it is soft, it is going to get stuck between your brackets to make your life tougher. This will cause more pain and discomfort and the next day you will need to rush to your orthodontist to get things done properly.

3. Ice- you can have ice in your drinks, but if you have a habit of chewing ice, it can harm your braces. Please do not do it.

4. You should not eat any kind of sticky food that can get stuck in the teeth. They will get stuck and invite bacteria to settle between the spaces.

While braces always remain the classic treatment for aligning the teeth, you need to take these precautions to ensure that you do not end up messing with the treatment. Talk to us and we will help you understand it in a better way.
