The Ins And Outs Of Transporting A Car

When it comes to getting a car transport service, there are a few things to know than just hiring a professional vehicle shipping company. You need to know the ins and outs of the whole process so that you don’t get taken advantage of. We have prepared this guide with 5 things to remember when initiating the auto shipping process, as you can protect yourself and your car by following them. So that being said, let’s get started:

Vet the Car Shipping Company:

Before you even get quotes from car shipping companies, the first thing to do is make a list of the potential vehicle shipping service providers you are going to ask for quotes and vet them. This will help you shortlist only the most professional and reputable ones, which will ensure a better deal and excellent service.

Once you have created a list, search the names of those companies on Google, one by one, and read the reviews on Their Google Business profiles, BBB profiles, and BirdEye. Note down the companies that have great reviews and then ask them for quotes.

Ask For Discount:

Once you have received the car shipping quotes, ask the companies to offer you a discount. Many companies have special discounts like AAA members, military personnel, seniors, students, disabled persons, and more. See if you fit inside any of these categories.

Try to negotiate the price to fit your budget, but if you see the company is unwilling to go any further, don’t push because they may either let go of their profit to give you a discount or cut corners in the service. Once you have received a satisfactory quote for a company, you can proceed with them.

Prepare The Car:

This is where you need to do a bit of legwork. Take your car to a mechanic and ask for a checkup for any problems, loose wires, loose parts, or leaking fluids. Then take the car for a wash, which will help in car inspection (more on this later). Then remove anything valuable from the car that can be detached like a spoiler, antennae, GPS, radio, etc. Put them inside the trunk and lock it.

Next, disable the alarm as it can go off during transit and cause the driver to lose focus while driving. Lastly, only leave the quarter gas tank filled, which will be enough for the person on the receiving end to take the car to a gas station and have it filled. Reducing the gas will lower the car’s weight, which can save you some bucks on auto shipping cost.

Don’t Put Over 100lb of Personal Items:

When it comes to putting your personal stuff inside the car, do not go over 100lbs because the car or the items can get seized.

Plus, do not put anything valuable inside because the cargo you put in the car will not be protected under insurance coverage. So if anything gets damaged, or lost, you will not get compensated for it.

Prepare Inspection Report:

Last but not least, when the carrier arrives to pick up the car, inspect it thoroughly from inside out. You have already washed the car at Move My Car this point, so any existing damages will be visible to you. Note down all damages in the inspection report and have it signed by the carrier.

If the car gets any additional damages after it is delivered, you can use the inspection report to file claim and get paid.
