Across the year's many versions of the ISO 9001 Standard have existed such as ISO 9000, ISO 9002, and ISO 9003. However, in the year 2000, a declaration was made to replace all of these with one, a short bureaucratic, method that would be able to control tasks and actions, embed excellence into the business system from the top-down, and use customer comfort to drive development.

In this blog, we’ll look at the 9000 families of Standards' reversed versions, what they sought to accomplish, and whether ISO 9001:2015 is actually the superior Quality Management System.

ISO certification 9000 family

The ISO 9000 family of standards was first announced in 1987, based on the British Standard identified as BS 5750, founded in 1979. The purpose of the ISO family of Standards was to present organizations with the essentials to create a Quality Management System (QMS) for a range of various business projects.

ISO 9001 explains what you should do to consistently render a product that satisfies buyer expectations and relevant legal and administrative requirements. In addition, you will try to improve client fulfillment by perpetual development of your quality management

system. ISO standards apply a methodical approach. Processes are identified as consisting of one or more connected activities that require resources and must be directed to achieve predetermined output. The output of one process may immediately form the input to the next process and the final product is frequently the result of a network or system of processes. The plan was that a business would choose the version of the Standard that was most proper, from three models, and achieve certification:

ISO certification 9001: 1987

When the ISO 9001 was first announced in 1987 it concentrated on final examinations and was designated or used by organizations that were included in the design, construction production, establishment, and service. Basically, any company that was involved in the formulation of new products. Over time it was recognized that ISO 9001: 1987 was too massively influenced by existing U.S. and other Support standards (“MIL SPECS”), and was updated in 1994. In the 1994 version, the Standard was modified to maintain quality assurance via preventative actions, instead of final product reviews and needed evidence of compliance via documented methods.

ISO certification  9002: 1987

When ISO 9002 was first published in 1987, it was created specifically for organizations that included production, establishment, and service. In conclusion, the standard was most beneficial for firms that produced other people’s designs. An example may be one of the organizations such as Foxconn or Pegatron who assemble Phones on behalf of Apple. These manufacturers did not design the goods they’re executing; they were produced by Apple – so ISO 9002 may have been a good option at the time for those third-party companies.

ISO certification 9003: 1987

ISO 9003 was much like the ISO 9001 with some parts taken out. definitely, the standard did not involve design control, method control, acquiring, or servicing. alternatively, it directed specifically on examination and testing, with the goal of ensuring that products and services met the defined requirements.

The reason why did ISO 9001 replace ISO 9002 and ISO 9003

In 2000, there was a significant overhaul to the ISO 9000 family. The three variants of the standard were consolidated into a single standard known as ISO 9001: 2000.

This ISO 9001:2000 Standard had new thoughts built into it including the well-known process-based method  Top management now required o be included so that quality ran during the business model. Performance metrics were also proposed along with constant improvement and customer fulfillment.

In addition to the change in approach, for the first time in the history of the ISO certification in India family companies were permitted to eliminate select elements of the Standard’s specifications this opened it up to a wider array of business actions and eliminated the required or various versions of the Standard to exist, contributing ISO 9002 and ISO 9003 obsolete.
