How To Play Soccer

Corner kicks are rarely scored on but they are highly practiced. If your team can get good at them, there is a chance that you can score a few during the season. Corner kicks have numerous positions, line ups and different words that you might not be accustom to. So for this article we will examine the terminology that is used during the game.
Kicker: This is the person that kicks the ball into the crowd of players. They should be good at aiming the ball where it needs to go. When practicing, your team should practice this skill. For my team, I used to place the ball over the PK line about five feet high. Each team is different and that needs to be factored in.
Short: This person is not in the action of the corner kick but rather they present themselves for a short pass. This will turn the corner kick into a simple offensive attack. It is hard to score this way because the 18 yard box is packed full of people.
Garbage: This player is on the other side of the box incase a ball is over shot they can pick up all the loose balls. Hence why they are called "Garbage".Safety: There are typically two defenders that sit between the half field and 18 yard box to help pin in the other team. This allows them keep the other team playing defensively. It is like that saying. The best defense is offense.
Post: If you are playing defense, you need to a couple of players to mark the post. This helps the goalie cover more of the goals and stops goals from going in on random deflections. There are two types of post, near post and far post. The near post is the closest one to the kicker and the far post is the farthest from the kick. Besides the players, there are also different types of moves and plays that can help.
Crashing the box: This is when every player on the offensive side rushes the net in hopes of a ball deflecting into a goal. Most of the time it is a waste but sometimes it may lead to a goal.
Posting up: This is when a player covers the post in hopes of a quick deflection into the net. The posts are usually covered by defenders but posting up still helps shield the goalie.
Shielding: This is when a player stands in front of the goalie and blind their view on what is going on. It also stops the goalie from running out and catching the corner kick and stopping the attack. As someone that is shielding, you will be in direct contact with the goalie so it is important that you do not foul by obstructing the goalie.
Arc: This is when the player aims the corner kick at the arc of the box. This is typically played for the shot instead of a deflection. All of this is the terminology you need to learn for the corner kicks.
