The vision of weary-eyed gentlemen across the city stumbling, trying to figure out which way is up, desperately searching for coffee, is a sight all too common. With the same four courses at lunch and dinner, this must be one of London’s shortest menus, but the dishes are complex, artfully-balanced, with flavors that linger in the mind. A traditional Italian trattoria by the River Thames, with views of Tower Bridge, Cantina in a nice spot for a quick bite of lunch or relaxed dinner. Butlers Wharf Chop House – the relaxed riverside destination, with its famous view of Tower Bridge, is the ideal terrace destination to enjoy their menu of meaty dishes and expertly curated wine list. Skylon is located in the Royal Festival Hall with panoramic views of the South Bank and River Thames. This superfood health cafe serves simple yet flavorful and clean food. Besides their croissants, the only thing that isn’t gluten-free is their bread which can be swapped for gluten-free bread. The menu is well labeled and has many vegan and dairy-free options. Good Life has multiple locations throughout London in places like Chelsea and Belgravia. Flat Iron is a simple restaurant in Soho that has perfected the art of good quality steak! The limited menu includes flat iron steak as its only main, along with five sides, including the delicious fries cooked in beef drippings, four sauces, and one dessert. If you spend longer you should dive into their all-day breakfast menu. You can get Allpress coffee from countless spots around London, but their two-storey Dalston Lane coffee shop and restaurant is the mothership. Not only is there a coffee lab where you can learn all kinds of nerdy things, they also have a spacious and secluded patio which is perfect for when the sun is shining. Cameo was the first vendor to open inside the Roost, a Southeast food hall run by prolific Neighborhood Restaurant Group. The coffee shop sells seasonal lattes using beans from Brooklyn roaster Parlor Coffee and switches things up monthly, so expect ambitious flavors. It’s opening came too late for the Michelin Guide 2020, but expect Davies & Brook to join the best restaurants in London with its own star very soon. The restaurant is an innovative concept and is split into three distinct areas – Above, Ground and Below – and a selection of stunning private dining rooms. It is at Hide Above that Dabbous displays the pinnacle of his culinary ability but until recently the only way to experience it in the evening was in the form of a five or eight-course tasting menu. As soon as you have left the lift you are transported to an Instagram wonderland from the flower archways and tunnels to the displays set up for photos. Inside the restaurant you will be in awe of the view over London and the beautiful hanging flowers from the ceiling. Already Instagrammable enough with the blue and gold décor stretched throughout the restaurant and made even more Instagrammable by the press for champagne button that sits at your table. The food is regional, seasonal, and thoroughly British, from suet-crusted pie and mash to deviled kid-liver skewers. The wine list is lengthy, and the cocktail menu offers punchy house creations alongside classics. It’s enjoyable in a different way at any time of day, from a breakfast bacon roll in upscale surrounds to a blowout dinner. This Australian style café offers excellent coffee and health food options that are all the rage right now including that Instagrammable acai bowl! Another added bonus is that they offer an inexpensive gluten-free afternoon tea tradition without the hefty price tag! Manna Dew is a great spot for an incredible gluten-free brunch that’s not too far from Central London. Vegans rejoice as everything at Vantra is wholesome, plant-based, and of course vegan. Vantra is also gluten-free, sugar-free, oil-free, and paleo-friendly. If you are looking for a great valued restaurant that serves delicious vegan, raw, and fermented food in the center of London, don’t pass up Vantra Loungevity. The small bistro tucked away on Wellington street, offers a variety of 25 award winning Grower Champagnes and artisanal charcuterie platters. The outdoor seating provides soft blankets, outside heating and baked cheese to warm our hearts up. Recognised as one of the best independent fish and chips shops in the UK, Poppies Covent Garden offers a large selection of outdoor terraces across its three locations. Enjoy locally sourced fish wrapped up in recyclable newspaper al fresco in the sunshine. Norma embodies the celebrated old-school hospitality and grand café culture found in Italy. Head chef Ben Tish , showcases the fresh and vibrant flavours found on the island of Sicily, imbued with Arabic influences and North African spices. It’s definitely my pick for one of the best cafes in Notting Hill. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Melbourne-inspired cafe without serving up some pretty amazing coffee. As well as the standard options like the Antipodean fave flat white, they also have some more interesting choices like a rose latte. From scrumptious avocado toast to healthy acai bowls, this is the perfect spot for a very, very long brunch. As someone who works at home when I’m not travelling, I cannot get enough of a good cafe. These guys ensure that they select only the very finest beans and blends, and inject love and passion into each and every cup. Aubaine might have locations all around London, but it’s the Selfridges spot that holds the crown. Along with the gorgeous Brasserie of Light, the wisteria-filled room is one of the most beautiful places to eat around the West End. I took my mum here for a birthday meal which went down a treat.
