After a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, prom is back.

Many Cape High Schools hold proms in outdoor locations - the Heritage Museum and Garden of Sandwich High School; Truro Vineyard is a high school student in the Nauset region.

Modric High School in Modric, Harwich, is setting up a marquee for revelers on the school lawn - rolling out the red carpet.

It wasn't until Governor Charlie Baker announced Monday that the restrictions would be lifted that students were advised to wear masks unless it was time for dinner.

The main theme is solidarity. Organizers say this year's celebration will be less couple-oriented, less exclusive, and more "prom" than traditional dances.

Many schools limit the number of students attending the ball by limiting it to this year's seniors (with little or no external data), or replacing or dropping dance with speeches, slides, and the highest fees, designed to prevent prom participants from interfering in sweaty masses.

Tamara Endich, a graphic arts teacher at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School who works as a senior class consultant, said: "If it's a bit crazy, we'll stop playing the music.

"We don't call it prom," said Christina LaBlanch, attendance secretary and joint senior classroom consultant at Naussett Regional High School in East Ham.

"We call it the High Night of the Vineyard," she says. "It's outside. This is a beautiful setting. Truro Vineyards are already lit up.
