All Black Beauden Barrett ended up unsuccessful in Japan

After losing in Sunday's top League final, All Black Beauden Barrett ended his season empty-handed in Japan but hinted he might return after the 2023 World Cup.

Barrett now signs a two-year deal with the Super Rugby Blues team to take him to France to compete in the World Cup, where he hopes to play the All Blacks in his favorite fly-half position.

While Beauden Barrett said he could one day return to Japan due to his short stay in the coronavirus disease.

“So, I have signed a two-year agreement with the All Blacks rugby team."

Beauden Barrett said, his Suntory Sungoliath squad beat 31-26 to the Panasonic Wild Knights in Tokyo.  

"I really want to come back. I really like my time here. There will be a lot of rugby matches between now and the World Cup, so I look forward to returning to New Zealand and focusing on what I do there for the next few years."

Beauden Barrett inwards in Japan in January, the infection increased, just days before Tokyo and other parts of Japan declared a state of emergency for the virus.

Restrictions are in place for most of the year, depriving Barrett of the opportunity to take full advantage of his vacation.

Barrett added, “We also want to experience the social features of it, this is impossible but given this situation."

Barrett had an afternoon worth forgetting in the final. Panasonic center Dylan Riley intercepted his pass in the fifth minute and scored the opening ceremony.

Suntory late counterattack wasn't enough to stop Panasonic from winning the trophy. Former Japanese winger Kenki Fukuoka stole the spotlight from Barrett in the final game before retiring.

Fukuoka played an important role in the quarter-finals of the 2019 World Cup in Japan. He takes part in his last competition and then leaving his training as a doctor.

The flying winger made a bang, scored in the first half, and put Panasonic in its hands.

Fukuoka said so it hasn't really sunk in yet, "I haven't thought too much about the issue of retirement."

"I hope this will ensure when I leave the match for a while. But what I can say for sure now is that I did everything I wanted to do in my career."

Fukuoka was supposed to play for the Japanese Sevens at the Tokyo Olympics, but when the Olympics were postponed for a year due to the pandemic, he decided to focus on his studies.

Fans of Sunday's game paid tribute to the most popular figures in Japanese rugby.

Panasonic fan Megumi Omura said before the game against AFP: "I was just starting to think about his last game today."
