Venetian Blinds for the First Time Buyer

Posted by johnpreston on October 21st, 2015

Venetian blinds add a sense of style to your home, and the many styles available gives you a lot of options in so far as finding the right match for your home is concerned. When you do go shopping, don’t confuse these with Roman and roller blinds, as those are different.

Types and Materials

These blinds are made from different materials, but the most popular are wood, aluminum and eco-wood, or faux wood. Regardless of the material, these blinds are often found in kitchens and bathrooms, and the distinct style also lends itself well to the office. Most are sold with 25 mm slats, though there are variations.

What makes them attractive for homeowners and office workers is the fact that they’re relatively inexpensive while covering windows very well. White and off white are the most common colors, though other hues can be found online to correspond with your home or office design.

Of all these styles, wooden blinds have proven to be attractive for many because they are stylish and is easy to dress up. Wood blinds are especially enticing because they’re sold in different slat sizes, and if you study window treatments you will learn that these wood blinds are often made from basswood, though a growing number are now constructed from bamboo or other hardwood.

Benefits and Advantages

Whether you use wood or other materials, these blinds provide several benefits that  you won’t get anywhere else. For instance, these blinds are not vulnerable to warping or wear and tear, and while often used in kitchens, can be installed anywhere. And as mentioned earlier, if you don’t want to use wood there are other options available such as plastic, PVC and even composite materials.

If you plan to install the blinds in a place where there is moisture such as the bathroom,  it’s best not to use wood and go for something else like PVC or hard plastic. If you have never bought one of these before, take your time and do some research first. Learn as much as you can about these screens, the different materials and so on.

Once you have decided what materials to use, ask yourself if it is suitable for the environment (home or office) where it will be installed. This is going to take some time especially if you have never used blinds for windows before, but conducting research is absolutely necessary when you’re buying something as important as blinds.
