Understanding the Concept of Hi-Fi Sound

Hi-Fi sound is often the last component to be considered when upgrading an existing home theater system. Although the term high definition may seem self-explanatory, many people have no idea what it means. Generally speaking, high definition means a resolution of high quality video that is typically delivered through a source with a display resolution equal to or greater than that of the source. For example, television broadcasts are classified as high definition; DVD video games, on the other hand, are not. In most cases, the term hi-fi is used to describe a set of speakers system that offers the best possible audio reproduction for whatever source is being viewed. For many audiophiles and enthusiasts, hi-fi sound is the holy grail of home theater systems. A typical home theater system employs a variety of speaker systems in order to produce audible music and movies with a high degree of resolution. The audio is usually derived from a CD or a digitally processed audio source, such as digital audio CD's and regular CD's. For listening enjoyment, hi-fi sound speakers are usually installed in every room of the house. For the most spectacular effects, however, the audio source may need to be connected to a high resolution television screen. These televisions come in two formats - widescreen and non-widescreen. To properly listen to the audio tracks on home cinema systems, the home theatre speaker system must be connected to a stereo amplifier with a maximum power output of at least eight ohms. Although the maximum power output number is often printed on the appliance, it is more common for manufacturers to simply list the recommended wattage. If the theatre room is large enough, one can install hi-fi systems with multiple speakers so that each speaker can handle a different musical track. The type of amplifier needed is dependent upon the quality of the sound system. Componentamp amplifiers are used with many electronic devices, including DVD players and game consoles. The speaker units of componentamp systems are commonly made of inexpensive electronic parts, such as transistors and capacitors. Although high fidelity speakers are required for this type of audio system, componentamp speakers can also produce good, deep bass response. Many people choose to install their own high-fidelity sound system, using speaker and amplifier combos. The speakers can be installed in one of several ways. One of the most popular ways of mounting speakers and amplifiers is by using rear panel audio adapters that make hi-fi sound system units readily available to audience members sitting in various places within the room. In addition to rear speakers, some hi-fi system units come with satellite speakers. Satellite speakers allow the audio system to be played through an appropriate television set, without interfering with anyone sitting in the room. This type of multi-speaker audio system is quite popular with persons who like to listen to their music and movies in different rooms of their house. Other types of speaker units are designed to create an effect similar to that of a stereo system, but with additional subwoofers. Some home cinema systems employ the use of effect speakers, although most home cinema systems use speaker systems which reproduce the music in the exact same frequency as the music source. To the listener, the difference is imperceptible. In home cinema systems, however, the effect speakers add is usually noticeable. Speakers are only one part of a well-balanced home cinema system. Subwoofers come in many shapes and sizes, and many come with options for bass boost. If you are looking for optimum sound quality, you may have to experiment to find the best combination of speakers and subwoofers that will produce the sound you want. The larger the speakers, the better the sound quality will be. You will have to experiment to find the combination of size and sound quality that work best for you.
