Many of the best sushi restaurants in New York have been finely created with skilled chefs. If you are looking for a true traditionalist or a pure vegan sushi shop, then head toishi restaurants. Offering some of the best sushi in New York and even in the country, this shop is known for its wonderful, fresh sashimi and nigiri. A must visit if you are ever in the area. Also, down on the east side of Manhattan, one of the most famous is BabyFish.

Offering both California and Japanese styles of sushi, Babyfish is located on Manhattan's Upper East Side. chef deejay David Hasselberg is at the helm here, along with executive chef Hidehiko Ueshiba. A legend has it that the founder of Babyfish came up with the concept for omakase simply because he couldn't eat fish when he was a kid. Ordering an omakase is easy: simply place the order for a plate of sushi, tell the chef your tastes, and wait for your sushi grade fish to be brought out to your table. While it may be on the more expensive end of things, omakase is delicious and worth the price.

While not on the expensive end, sushi places in New York offer some incredible food. If you are in the mood for something sweet, consider aka do, which is made from a rice cake, sweetened with sake. It's served with a plum sauce and is served with green onions and wasabi. If you want something spicy, a traditional kebab like beef kabobs or chicken kabobs can satisfy your palate and help you enjoy your sushi last night.

Among the more popular sushi spots in NYC are the ones in Battery Park on the East Side. Offering not only delicious sushi but also great burgers, ribs, and other food, chef Peter Thomas Daley chef at the bar is a must visit. You can also check out his other spots including the sushi bar and the sushi roll restaurant. Omakase is located on Manhattan's East Side near Astoria Square. A signature dish at Omakase is their deep fried octopus that is prepared by hand.
