7 Things That Require Owner’s Permission During Home Inspection

Home inspection implies a particular number of home inspector(s) will check the conditions of the roof, basement, walls, electrical wires, plumbing, floor, and so on of the house in concern. Since their work is around the entire house, it is not surprising that you may feel skeptical as to what they may touch and what they may not. Considering the kind of work they do, they will be examining the entire house, undoubtedly. However, there are certain things that they cannot touch or move without the owner’s permission.

The 7 things that home inspectors cannot move without the permission of the property owner are as follows:

1. Furniture

Furniture inspection is more than often not inclusive of home inspection. Moving furniture can cause significant damage to the floor or to the chattel itself. A home inspector, therefore, cannot shift any furniture until the owner of the property permits.

2. Wall Hangings

Anything hanging on your wall, photos, pinboards, decorations will remain untouched during a  home inspection in High River AB or anywhere. These things are your personal belongings, and house inspectors do not want to be liable for any damage to them.

3. Plants

There are almost no chances that house inspectors will need to move your indoor plants during the inspection. A home inspection tells you the problems, so your plants will be safe from any chemical treatment.

4. Rugs and Carpets

You do not need to remove your rugs and carpets for a home inspection; home inspectors seldom move them. The chances become lesser if the home inspector has sufficient experience.

5. Large Electrical Appliances

Large electrical appliances include a fridge, microwave, washing machine, air conditioner, coffee maker, freezer, and so on. Like furniture, home inspectors will need permission before moving large electrical appliances as sometimes old appliances start malfunctioning.

6. Wallpaper

The wallpapers of the home are again something that will remain untouched/unremoved during the home inspection. In case there is an issue that needs attention, it will be there in the final report.

7. Mechanical Equipment

Home inspections do not include equipment like generators, inverters, and other similar tools. Neither are these tools an impediment in the work of inspectors. However, if a situation arises that requires the movement of equipment, it will need permission from the owner.

Whether you are the owner or someone who has been given the charge for a home inspection, it is prudent to take prior permission from the property owner, especially if the owner will not be present during the inspection. This way, a speedy way of working as well as a better final report can be expected from the home inspection.
