These Shifters are sold by several online travel sites and hotels. The whole concept is really simple. The user searches for an applicable discount coupon code, then finds out he already has it if he looks for a particular hotel or online travel site. So a new traveler can acquire a significant discount on his future vacation trip if he looks for a Shifter proxy in advance and enters the appropriate code to receive... a discounted rate! The way the whole system works is pretty devious. A savvy internet marketer goes into internet marketing research, looking for discount coupon codes for hotels, then conducts some basic Google searches to locate hotels that have those coupons available. After which, he visits each of the sites he's been directed to and enters the discount code into the forms on the screen. If the hotel's website shows an IP address, that IP address is what the shifter proxy uses as its means of identification. The IP address is unique to that computer at the internet address belonging to the online advertiser. The shifter software then intercepts the request for the discount coupons. It reads the request, calculates the discount codes (if any) and retrieves the requested discount coupons. It then checks each of the IP addresses to see if the user is currently online. If so, the discount coupons are then immediately delivered to the visitor. If not, the software sends a request for another IP address and continues the process. This is just one example of how simple it is for the shiftters to use the discount coupons they have obtained. While this example is one way of how the shifter proxy works, it is by no means the only way. In fact, there are many different ways to employ them. One of them is to offer them to customers who may not currently be aware that such services even exist. They can offer the lower price in hopes of enticing more people to use the site and thus increasing their earnings through sales. Another way that the shorter proxy service works is by using what is known as a "pretext server." A pretext server is a server that receives requests from websites which don't have their own IP address. Instead, they use a unique series of IP addresses from a list of websites that have their own IP addresses. The purpose of the pretext server is to make it appear that the website which the IP address belongs to is legitimate. Once a user visits the website which has its own IP address, the server will return a "concealed" redirect to the homepage of the user's computer which will appear to them as the website they were previously visiting. Of course, not all IP changing web proxies use backconnect technology. There are other types of web proxies which don't use this technology. One of these is the web proxy which does not actually change or alter the IP address of the user. Rather, it serves the user with a pageset which mimics a genuine website, but won't actually allow them to access that website directly. There are other types of the shifter proxy which don't necessarily rely on special backconnect proxy servers. These types of web proxies may actually be downloaded as web pages using normal file sharing programs. ShoppingCodes are then installed on the user's computer and will serve the user with a webpage where they can access the internet. The only thing which may limit the use of these types of web proxies is the system itself, where it may detect certain programs which may attempt to alter the IP address which has been used to access the internet. Now, as you can see, there are a few different ways in which the shifter proxy works. However, it is strongly recommended that you use one of the two servers provided by the author, who has taken the time to make sure these types of services have been tested thoroughly. This way, you will be able to make sure you're using a quality product that will help protect your computer and your identity online.
